Granola and Snack Bar Sales Plateau
Due to the saturation of a mature market and decreased innovation, the snack and granola bar category is leveling off, according to Mediapost.com. Although many make claims like all-organic or whole-grain, sales have slowed to 1 percent between 2005 and 2006 said a Mintel International report. Granola bars appear to be more popular than breakfast bars. Bars with large company's marketing muscle behind them appear to do better, but Mintel predicts the category retail sales will increase 22 percent from 2006 to 2011. Kellogg Co.'s Nutra-Grain bar ranks first place in the breakfast bar segment, with special K's line number two. Kraft's South Beach Diet snack bars claimed the number three spot.
