| State Fair ponders cost cutting: concerts or rodeo
Colorado State Fair officials are considering dumping either the concert series or the five-day rodeo to cut costs, the "Pueblo Chieftain" reported. Meeting Thursday in Pueblo, fair commissioners and management were questioning whether retaining either venue was wise because both struggle financially. "Pueblo is a unique market, and figuring out the market is tough," Fair General Manager Chris Wiseman is quoted as saying. "This isnt the first year this has happened (entertainment revenue being down). Entertainment is a big problem and if it doesnt make sense, maybe we shouldnt do it." Commissioner Russell Johnson of Sterling questioned whether the same might be said of the rodeo. The concert series lost $64,531 this year, and the rodeo lost $220,164, according to financial reports.
